Welcome to chuukaku.com

The website of Katie Fraser, an aspiring librarian and perspiring PhD student.

I am currently pursuing a career plan to become a research librarian. I am just starting an MA in Librarianship at the University of Sheffield Information Studies Department. My experience in academic libraries involves a full-time year-long Graduate Traineeship at the Albert Sloman Library at the University of Essex ending September 2008 and a year as part-time term-time Library Assistant at the George Green Library at the University of Nottingham.

I undertook my PhD from 2003 to 2007 at the Learning Sciences Research Institute and Mixed Reality Laboratory at the University of Nottingham, looking at designing homework technologies to fit with family life. My thesis was passed in December 2008, although I won't be graduating until later in 2009.

These pages host a blog, particularly focused on my library work, which gives more details of my current activities. My most recent blog entry is Visit to Sheffield Public Libraries, posted on January 6th.

The links on the left take you to more information on any aspect of my past / present. The depth of the content varies from place to place, but so far academic sections exist on my PhD, my previous Masters degree in Occupational Psychology, and my CV and other activities pages give a bit of broader background on my experience.

Chuukaku is a Japanese word, and more details about its derivation and my choice of chuukaku as a domain name can be found in the first entry in my blog.
