If you are interested in networking with me in other ways, you may find the following a help.
As the name of this site indicates, I have a keen interest in Japanese culture. I learnt some basic Japanese several years ago during my undergraduate degree and fully intend to go and visit the country when time and money allow.
My most active participation in the output of Japan is through the Nottingham Anime and Manga Society (otherwise known as NAMSoc) where I have been a committee member or helper since around 2004. Anime is an entertaining way to keep my Japanese language skills current, and is also a fascinating art form - a far cry from the majority of animation we have in the Western world.
Lastly, I have a strong interest in music, primarily as a consumer, although occasionally as a performer. My piano / keyboard skills are rustier than my Japanese! Many of the bands I like have experienced some success in Japan, and I do listen to a limited amount of Japanese music.
My interest in both anime and music has meant a lot of investment in digital rights management, and this is a personal interest of mine which I carry over enthusiastically into my work. This combines with the knowledge of learning technologies I picked up in my PhD, to make me generally interested in digital information sharing and consumption.
